The Sunday Craving

After an extremely busy weekend, everyone has a Sunday craving. Mine is always the breakfast burrito.

Welcome to Al Carajo, a low-key Bay Area staple that’s built a following over the past few years for doing one thing really well: turning a simple breakfast into something you actually think about days later. It’s not trying to be flashy or reinvent anything. It just leans into bold flavors, late-morning energy, and food that feels worth the wait.

The burrito itself hits that balance perfectly. Spicy chorizo, soft scrambled eggs, melted jack cheese, and crispy tater tots all wrapped into something that’s both indulgent and comforting. But what makes it stand out is the sriracha mayo. It cuts through the richness with just enough heat and tang, pulling everything together instead of sitting on top of it.

That’s where it gets interesting. At its core, it’s a classic Mexican-American breakfast burrito, but the sriracha adds a subtle Asian influence that shifts the whole experience. It’s not fusion for the sake of it. It works because the flavors actually complement each other. The spice from the chorizo and the heat from the sriracha don’t compete; they build on each other, while the eggs and cheese keep everything grounded.
It’s the kind of food that feels familiar, but just different enough to keep you coming back
